WallZ8

240 HP4 armor

Palisade WallStone-footed Wall (March)Stone Wall (Sovereignty)

Drag a line to lay up to 40 segments; neighbors join up and diagonal lines still seal. The Wall button builds your best tier, and its icon shows which; the notches on it pick a cheaper tier (or press the Wall key again while placing). To upgrade old Walls, rebuild them: drag a new line over them. You pay the difference at once, and Laborers rebuild each segment while it stands; new tiles in the same line are built as usual. Selected segments (drag a box over them, or Select line) can also be rebuilt from their panel. Tiers: Palisade 240 HP for 8 Wood; Stone-footed (March) 384 HP for 5 Wood + 5 Stone; Stone (Sovereignty) 576 HP for 2 Wood + 10 Stone. A segment keeps its tier until you rebuild it at a higher one: drag a new line over it and pay the difference.

GateC30

420 HP4 armor

Palisade GateStone-footed Gate (March)Stone Gate (Sovereignty)

Opens for your own units and stays shut to enemies. Click one of your Wall segments to replace it with a Gate, or an older Gate to rebuild it. Gates have the same tiers as Walls. Tiers: Palisade 420 HP for 30 Wood; Stone-footed (March) 672 HP for 20 Wood + 15 Stone; Stone (Sovereignty) 1008 HP for 10 Wood + 35 Stone. A segment keeps its tier until you rebuild it at a higher one: drag a new line over it and pay the difference.

TowerO9050

700 HP5 armor9 every 2 s, range 7

Fortified stone: blows from anything but siege deal only 50% of their damage. Upgrade each Tower from its own panel: upgrades apply to this tower only, a new Tower starts plain, and a destroyed one loses its upgrades. It shelters 5 units on foot, and shoots faster with each inside.

FortressX250210150

2600 HP10 armor10 every 1.6 s, range 8Sovereignty

The late-game stronghold: fortified, shoots faster with units inside, shelters 10, and adds 10 housing. Costs Glory. Trains your faction’s unique unit.

Tower upgrades

Upgrades apply to this tower only: select a Tower and buy them on its own panel, one Tower at a time (the button shows the progress; click it again to cancel). Boiling Oil needs Fortified Towers on the same Tower first.

  • Fortified TowersMarch · 5035This Tower gains 4 armor and shoots 40% faster.
  • Arrow SlitsMarch · 4030This Tower reaches 1 tile farther and deals 3 more damage.
  • Boiling OilSovereignty · 5550This Tower pours oil on enemies at its foot: 18 damage to each every 3 seconds. Needs Fortified Towers on it first.

Fortress technologies

  • Elite GuardSovereignty · 200150Your faction’s Fortress unit gains 25 HP and 3 damage, the ones in the field too (the Warden, Clansman, Legionary, Stone Bearer, or Pharaoh’s Guard).
  • Murder HolesSovereignty · 150150Fortress and Town Hall arrows deal 4 more damage, and stones dropped on enemies at their foot deal 15 every 3 seconds.
  • Archer GalleriesSovereignty · 140130Archers man covered galleries along the Fortress walls: the Fortress shoots every 1.2 seconds instead of 1.6, and its arrows deal 2 more damage.
  • ConscriptionSovereignty · 220120Military units train 25% faster.
  • TestudoSovereignty · 150100120Roman infantry raise their shields overhead: in the shield wall they take 30% less damage from arrows and javelins (a Legionary 58% less; Warden bolts punch through half of that).
  • Druidic RitesSovereignty · 150100120Druids tend the wounded in the thick of battle: they also heal units that are still fighting, 1 HP per second each.
  • Eye of HorusSovereignty · 120120110Priestesses watch over the archers: Archers within 4 tiles of a Priestess shoot +2 harder, as if under your walls, anywhere on the map.

Breaking a stronghold

  • Breakers (WorkshopK, March) deal +33 to buildings and full damage to fortified stone. Workshop research makes them tougher and harder-hitting: Reinforced Frames (Sovereignty), Siege Engineers (March).
  • Trebuchets (WorkshopK, March, after Counterweights) throw stones from 4 to 13 tiles, beyond a Tower’s arrows: +120 to buildings, with a splash of 40% on what stands within 1.25 tiles. One must deploy (3s) before it fires and pack up (2.5s) before it moves; any move order packs it up first. A stone lands 3s later where its target stood, so moving soldiers dodge it, and it may bombard buildings you have seen even under fog. Riders and Swordsmen tear it apart: keep an escort around it, and hunt the enemy’s with Riders.
  • Units whose target is walled off break through the nearest Wall or Gate on the way.
  • The Town Hall shoots too, and it, the Fortress, and a Tower shoot 25% faster for every unit sheltering inside.
